The 2017 NFL Draft took place this past Thursday-Saturday in Philadelphia, PA and the University of Pittsburgh was well-represented in the final tally of players selected. Pitt finished the night with five players being taken, which was tied for the 11th most of any school. Overall, Michigan lead all programs with 11 players drafted, followed by Alabama with 10, Miami with 9, Florida, LSU and Utah with 8, Ohio State with 7, and Tennessee, Clemson and UNC with 6.

While no Panthers went on the first night, the biggest story of Friday for Pitt fans was the selection of James Conner by the Pittsburgh Steelers with their second selection in the 3rd round (No. 105 overall).

Conner was the first Pitt player selected, which was somewhat of a surprise, as Dorian Johnson was widely predicted to be the first Panther taken. However, it was later revealed that Johnson had been flagged because of a medical concern regarding his liver. The All-American guard ended up going in the 4th round (No. 115) to the Arizona Cardinals.

Also selected was Pitt QB Nathan Peterman, who slid into the 5th round, before being taken by Buffalo. Peterman had significant buzz going into the Draft, but ended up being the seventh quarterback selected, behind No. 2 pick Mitch Trubisky, No 10. Patrick Mahomes II, No. 12 Deshaun Watson, 2nd round pick (No. 52), DeShone Kizer, 3rd round picks Davis Webb (No. 87) and C.J. Beathard (No. 104) and 4th rounder Joshua Dobbs (No. 135) who went to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The final two picks were Pitt offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty who went to the New York Giants in the 6th round (No. 200) and defensive end Ejuan Price (7th round, No. 234), who will join Pitt alum Aaron Donald in Los Angeles.

In addition to the five draft picks, seven Pitt players signed as undrafted free agents in the hours following the draft.

Tight end Scott Orndoff and defensive back Terrish Webb both signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Denver Broncos picked up a pair of Pitt defensive lineman, inking Shakir Soto and Tyrique Jarrett to deals.

Pitt wideout Dontez Ford signed with the Detroit Lions.

Linebacker Bam Bradley went to the Ravens.

Defensive back Ryan Lewis will be joining Dorian Johnson in Arizona after signing there as a UDFA.

Pitt linebacker Matt Galambos went unsigned, but received an invitation to Chiefs mini-camp.
