Offers were flying yesterday as the Pitt football coaches continue to evaluate prospects across the country.

The Panthers coaches offered a handful of 2018 and 2019 recruits in search of future Pitt Panthers.

The first offer went to 2018 offensive tackle/defensive end Jalen Mayfield from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“I received a phone call from Coach Hill and he said that they like me a lot and loved my film,” said Mayfield. “I think Pitt is on the come up in the ACC. This is a great opportunity that I’ve just received. At this point, I have no favorites and every place is a possibility. Pitt is recruiting me both as a offensive lineman and as a defensive end.”

The next offer went to an athlete from down in the Sunshine State.

Pitt became the second school to offer 2018 athlete Teja Young (5-foot-11, 170 pounds).

“Coach Partridge offered me today at my school. He said, “I’m offering you. Your film is great and we want you up here,” said Young. “I’m excited about the Pitt offer because they share the same facility as the Steelers and they’re my favorite NFL team. I think I should be taking a visit up there sometime in the summer. Pitt is recruiting me as a defensive back but I’m an athlete.”

The third offer went to a top sophomore prospect.

2019 defensive tackle/offensive tackle Logan Brown from Grand Rapids, Michigan got the good news from Pitt.

Despite only being a sophomore, Brown (6-foot-6, 285 pounds) already holds offers from Louisville, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Michigan.

“Coach Hill called my coach and offered me and said that they want to grow a relationship with me,” said Brown. “I’m very excited to get my offer from Pittsburgh. I don’t know much about the University of Pittsburgh aside from them playing at Heinz Field. The Pittsburgh Steelers are my favorite NFL team and I was born a Steeler fan.”

“I only have one scheduled visit coming up next month at North Carolina and I’ll be at a few other schools over the summer. I plan on visiting Pittsburgh with my father sometime this summer.”

I asked Brown what’s it like to be getting all this attention only being a sophomore.

“It’s funny you asked that question to be honest because my coaches asked me the exact same question,” said Brown. “I told them it’s awesome and I’m enjoying the process, meeting new people and seeing great universities. I’m loving the process and the people I get to meet and the opportunities I’m getting everyday.”

Maybe the most interesting offer went to a player that’s already committed to another school.

2018 cornerback Christian Jackson from Marietta, Georgia received an offer from Pitt.

Jackson (6-foot-1, 183 pounds) is verbally committed to Michigan State but still received the offer.

Jackson is a 3-star recruit with offers from Michigan, NC State, Purdue, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
