For the second time in the last couple of years, Pitt has landed a linebacker recruit from the state of Virginia.
Two years ago, it was Chase Pine, this afternoon it was Richmond 3-star linebacker Wendell Davis. I feel this is something important because Virginia is a state that Pitt has made a big effort to try and recruit.
To be honest, this decision caught some by surprise but Davis told PSN that now was the time to join the PittĀ movement.
“One of the reasons, was between them and my other two top schools, Duke and Boston College, Pitt had a lot more majors that I’m interested in and for me to choose from. Secondly, I love the Pitt coaching staff. I know people say you shouldn’t commit because of a coaching staff but Pitt’s staff is just great,” said Davis.
Just watching them this season in games against Tech and Clemson, I saw a lot of potential and I think they’re going to be something special and want to be apart of that.”
Davis made his decision this afternoon and once it was official he called Coach Narduzzi to give him the news.
“I called Coach Narduzzi first, I think he was surprised because he wasn’t expecting it but he was really excited though,” said Davis.

With the two commitments today, Twitter was filled with reaction from Pitt fans. As you can imagine, Panther fans were letting Tallandier and Davis know how excited they were and it’s something that impressed Davis.
“That’s another reason I committed to Pitt is the fans.Ā Pittsburgh is a huge football town with great history of the Steelers and Pitt. The people and the fans are really passionate about their football. I wanted to play for a great fan base.”
The final thing that drew Davis to Pitt was Pitt’s defensive scheme and this pass rushing linebacker believes it’s one that will allow him to excel.
“Pitt is really aggressive with their linebackers and blitz them a lot with Coach Narduzzi and I think with my athletic ability and speedĀ that will allow me to excel,” said Davis.

247 Sports rates Davis as a 3-star recruit with offers from Michigan State, Rutgers, Duke, West Virginia and Boston College.
Davis becomes Pitt’s sixth verbal commitment and from aĀ fifth different state (Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania (2) and Massachusetts).
