Pitt has spent a lot of time recruiting and have offered a bunch of scholarships to players in the state of Florida.

To this point, it hasn’t resulted in any commitments for the Class of 2018.

Jacksonville defensive lineman Parker Devine is one of seventy-six junior recruits from Florida that have a scholarship offer from Pitt.

Devine (6-foot-4, 251 pounds) received the Panther offer six days ago and this talented defensive lineman has Pitt as one of his favorites from over 30+ offers that he’s received.

“As I’m starting to narrow down schools, they are one of the top schools that I’m looking at. I think Coach Narduzzi is building something pretty special. He’s bringing in a lot of talent especially that 2017 Class. Then I was looking at the commits for this year and they’re pretty talented as well and I think they’re going to be something big in a couple of years,” said Devine.

Devine went on to say he has a couple of connections to Pitt as well.

“Their quarterback last year, Nate Peterman, went to my high school, Pitt is also my moms alma mater, so she was excited about the offer”

“I think it might be a small factor (mother graduated from Pitt) but I have to think what’s best for me and I’m going to have to leave my parents behind regardless of which school I go to. But it is kind of cool that her old school offered me,” said Devine.

Football wise, I asked Devine is there one thing that interests him most about the Pitt football program.

“I remember watching the Clemson game last year, it was a crazy game with Pitt beating them. I’ve always known about Pitt and they play in the conference that I want to play in so that makes the offer better to me.”

Devine tells me that his position in college is likely to be defensive tackle and it’s something that he’s talked about with defensive line coach Charlie Partridge.

Playing defensive tackle is one of the reasons Devine has added 25 pounds in weight since the end of last season. He added the weight by eating “really good power foods and consuming 7,000 calories a day.” Right now, Devine weighs in at 254 pounds.

Devine says that he’s been told that Pitt plans on taking four defensive lineman in this class so with commitments from Noah Palmer and John Morgan, that means two spots are left. Scholarship availability is something that he’s aware of and keeps his eye on.

Devine wants to make a commitment before his season begins and tells me that Pitt will definitely be one of his official visits. Other schools that could get visits are Boston College, West Virginia, Mississippi State and possibly Duke.
