A month ago, Pitt fans were worried because the football team only had one verbal commitment. Fast forward to June 14th and those worries have disappeared.
This morning, Belle Vernon offensive tackle Blake Zubovic became Pitt’s ninth verbal commitment in this year’s Class of 2018.
The most impressive part of this run on commitments for Pitt is the quality of recruit they’re landing and the teams they’re beating to land them. All of these recruits are rated right now as three-star but don’t be surprised if Zubovic, Jake Kradel, John Morgan and possibly Judson Tallander get moved up to a four-star.
Here are the latest commitments and the list of offers each recruit held:
- Blake Zubovic: Penn State, Virginia Tech, Michigan State, West Virginia and Northwestern
- Jake Kradel: Iowa, Ohio State, UCLA, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin
- John Morgan: Maryland, Penn State, Virginia Tech
- Judson Tallander: Arizona, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Purdue, NC State
- Chase Brown: Minnesota, TCU and Virginia Tech
With the commitment of Zubovic, I’m being told that Pitt will take one and possibly two more offensive lineman. Top candidates include Chris Bleich, Jimmy McKenna and Justin Johnson.
As far as the defensive line goes, I’m told that Pitt will be taking two more commitments (either defensive end or defensive tackle). The top candidates for those spots are Devin Danielson, Spencer Anderson, David Green and Parker Devine.
As far as the tight end position, I’m told that Pitt is only taking one more.
Zubovic became the third local player to commit to Pat Narduzzi this year. In all probability it won’t be the last.
Here is PSN’s Top 10 WPIAL 2018 Recruits and likelihood of them landing them.
1) Phil Jurkovec: committed to Notre Dame
2) Kwantel Raines: likely coming down to Pitt or Penn State
3) Devin Danielson: the longer this goes, the longer I don’t like Pitt’s chances.
4) Jake Kradel: committed to Pitt
5) TJ Banks: like Pitt’s chances
6) Blake Zubovic: committed to Pitt
7)Marcus Hooker: if Ohio State doesn’t offer, I like Pitt’s chances
8) David Green: could become a numbers game, will a scholarship be there?
9) Noah Palmer: committed to Pitt
10) Kenny White: to this point, Pitt hasn’t offered
This could turn out to be one heck of a year for Pitt recruiting talented WPIAL kids.
