UPDATE (2:45 PM)-

The Duquesne football team is the preseason pick to repeat as Northeast Conference champions, according to a media poll released Thursday.

The Dukes have won back-to-back titles and at least a share of the title in four of the last six season in the NEC, which plays at the FCS level. They received four of the seven first-place votes.

Three local players — Upper St. Clair OL Ben Huss, Greensburg Central Catholic LB Nathan Stone and University Prep DB Abner Roberts — were among the six Dukes selected to the All-NEC preseason team.

Robert Morris was predicted to come in last place. Montour K Adam Check was one of two all-conference selections for the Colonials.

UPDATE (11:00 AM)-

Pitt baseball picked up a verbal commitment from an incoming high school freshman on Thursday morning.

Class of 2021 catcher Chris Bernal of McAllen, Texas announced his verbal commitment on Twitter.

Bernal is listed at 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, though coming off his eighth grade season, it’s unclear how updated this numbers are.
