Is Pitt defensive back Damar Hamlin a sophomore or a redshirt freshman?
Surprisingly, as we’re two days from the official start of camp, no one has an answer to that question.
Sources tell Pittsburgh Sports Now that the Hamlin redshirt question is still pending and Pitt is waiting to hear something back from the NCAA.
After debuting late in the season against Virginia Tech, Hamlin underwent surgery for a sports hernia. The case Pitt is attempting to make for the redshirt is that Hamlin only played 8-9 quarters.
Is that too much for the NCAA to grant him a redshirt?
Regardless of the decision, Hamlin will be a big factor on Pitt’s 2017 defense. From everything we’re hearing, Hamlin is as healthy as he’s been in years and ready to show the skills that made him a national recruit.
Considering the Whitehead situation as well as the uncertain status of Paris Ford, Pat Narduzzi is going to be counting on Hamlin to be an anchor in his secondary.
