Over the last two recruiting classes, Pitt has done a good job of attracting talent to try and improve their secondary.

In this year’s class, they’ve gotten a commitment from Florida cornerback Marquise Williams, Maryland cornerback Judson Tallandier and are a finalist for 4-star safety Kwantel Raines.

Tonight, PSN has learned that the Panthers are now a finalist for a highly rated cornerback from Georgia.

2018 cornerback Donte Burton (5-11, 175) from Loganville, Georgia is a 247 Sport 3-star cornerback.  Burton holds an impressive offer list of Notre Dame, Oregon, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, North Carolina, Louisville, Nebraska and Oklahoma State.

Tonight we talked to Burton about his interest in the Panthers.

“Pitt has been in contact with me since the beginning. I get a text message from them almost everyday. I also hear from a variety of their coaches not just the cornerback coach.  I talk to Coach Conklin quite abit on the phone and I also have talked to their head coach and wide receivers coach.  They’ve all pretty much been in contact with me,” said Burton.

“They’ve all made me feel like I’m a big target and a big priority for them.”

This attention by Pitt is one of the reasons Burton has a lot of interest in them.

“It’s extremely special to me to know that I’m such a priority to them.  As much interest as they’ve shown in me just makes me love that program more and opens me up to them even more. I just feel like they want me not only as a player but as a person too,” said Burton.

Burton’s skill set is one that appears to be a perfect match for Pitt’s defensive scheme.

“Strength of my game is my ability to lockdown a receiver in press coverage. I’m a press corner and believe I have the ability to take away any teams top receiver.”

Despite having a long list of offers, Burton told us the teams that have made his list of finalists.

“I’ve narrowed things down and want to make a decision fairly soon, probably sometime next month.”

“Pitt is one of the top schools for me. I hope to get out to Pittsburgh soon for an official visit probably in the next 2-3 weeks,” said Burton.

Burton tells PSN that his other finalists are Notre Dame, Missouri, Oklahoma State and West Virginia.

Finally, I asked Burton what’s the biggest factor that’s drawn him to Pitt.

“A lot of great defensive backs have come from the ACC. Also, Pitt’s defense seems like a great fit for me. They play a lot of press coverage and that’s what they like about me. That’s a great scheme and one that I’m looking to play in.”
