Update on Pitt Football Recruiting Targets

As Pitt gets ready to host their second official visits of the recruiting season, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at where they stand with certain targets.

The big name on campus this weekend will be Georgia wide receiver Jatavious Harris, who is one of three very talented receivers Pitt is actively recruiting.

After a week full of activity, here’s our take on where things stand with certain players and positions.

Quarterback: Nick Patti is the only quarterback in Pitt’s class this year but could that change? If any of the quarterbacks on the roster decide to leave, would Pitt go recruit another one?

Running Back: After the departure of Chawntez Moss, Pitt is looking to add a back to this class. The question is who? JUCO Kevon Abrams was a player that was supposed to visit this weekend but Chris Peak of Pantherlair reports now that Abrams won’t be visiting and looks to be off Pitt’s radar. PSN hasn’t been able to confirm any new names but a source told me that “Pitt has a few irons in the fire.”  We’re working to find out who those irons are.

Wide Receivers: As we told you last week, Pitt is looking to add two wide receivers. The three names that Pitt is focused on are Jatavious Harris, Jeshaun Jones and Shocky Jacques-Louis.

Harris is visiting this weekend and will visit Louisville next weekend before making his decision. This is coin-flip and this weekend will be big for Pitt.

Jacques-Louis visited Pitt last weekend and tells PSN he’s done with official visits. Of all three receivers, I think Pitt has the best chance of landing Jacques-Louis.

As far as Jones goes, he’ll be visiting Nebraska this weekend after getting an offer from hew head coach Scott Frost. I liked Pitt’s chances for him prior to Nebraska but now I’m going to wait and see. I think Pitt still has a chance but things got more difficult. Pitt coaches visited Jones again last night and will fight to the end in hopes of landing this talented playmaker.

Offensive Lineman: JUCO OT Jahmir Johnson was a player Pitt tried to prioritize by visiting him last Monday and offering him a scholarship. Since then, Johnson has picked up offers from Nebraska, Texas and Tennessee. This weekend, Johnson is visiting Missouri. PSN hasn’t been able to confirm Johnson visiting Pitt so at this point, he’s a name I’d cross offer Pitt’s recruiting list.

Defensive Line: Ohio defensive tackle Tyler Bentley is the top target here for Pitt. Bentley is visiting Louisville this weekend and Kentucky next weekend but I’d be surprised if on Signing Day Bentley doesn’t select Pitt.

Linebacker: Pitt went after JUCO ILB Will Honas with Pat Narduzzi visiting him in Kansas but Honas informed PSN this week that he wouldn’t be visiting Pitt. A name to keep an eye on is Detroit’s Kolin Demens, who recently decommitted from UCLA. PSN has attempted to contact Demens to see if he’ll be considering Pitt.

Secondary: This is hard to project because of the amount of offers Pitt has extended to uncommitted players. The names to watch are Jairus Brents, Rashad Ajayi, Ron Hardge, Nigel Bethel and V’lique Carter This could be a case of Pitt taking the first players to commit.

There are other names being floated around that Pitt are trying to make official visits but until we’re able to confirm these reports with the recruits before we report on them.

12 days until Signing Day, should be interesting.
