The Panthers mounted a huge second half comeback to get within two points of the Mountaineers Saturday night at the Pete before West Virginia pulled away at the end. Even with the loss, fans had to be encouraged by Pitt’s resolve against the 18th ranked team in the country.
Pitt coach Kevin Stallings felt the same way about his squad telling the media after the game “I couldn’t be any more proud of my team, their effort and how hard they fought,” Stallings said. “We got our butts kicked in the first half. Guys of lesser character would put their head between their legs and think the night was over, but there was none of that in them. Not at halftime, not at any point. I couldn’t have asked any more out of them than they gave.”
But is it enough for Pitt basketball fans? Does this game offer a glimmer of hope or was it just a poor second half performance by WVU, who went to sleep after going into halftime up 18-points?
