What Does All the Pitt Recruiting News Mean?

Published

on

It’s been quite a last 24 hours in the Pitt recruiting world.

Pat Narduzzi has gotten three verbal commitment and also found out about a player that won’t be joining this year’s recruiting class.

The first new addition was Ventura C.C. quarterback Ricky Town. The addition of Town fills out Pitt’s quarterback depth chart and also means that Kai Locksley from Iowa CC won’t be coming to Pitt.

Both Town and Locksley visited over the weekend and Pitt decided to offer Town.

The second commitment was a bit of a surprise. While Georgia cornerback Rashad Ajayi was a trendy guess, Pitt ended up getting a pledge from Florida safety V’Lique Carter, who flipped from Iowa State.

Shortly after the news from Carter, Ajayi gave a verbal commitment to Colorado State. Coincidence?

With the addition of Carter, does that end Pitt’s recruiting of defensive backs? Pitt has been active in recruiting players such as safety Ron Hardge, cornerback Jairus Brents and a couple of others.

The third commitment hasn’t been revealed yet and that’s the interesting part.

The thought is that one of the three wide receivers, Shocky Jacques-Louis, Jatavious Harris or Jeshaun Jones, gave Pat Narduzzi a silent commitment in advance of their formal announcement. Harris is announcing his decision tomorrow while Jones and Jacques-Louis will decide on Signing Day.

I can tell you that one of those three wide receivers told me tonight that he didn’t give a pledge to Pitt. As of this posting, the two other wide receivers haven’t returned my message.

Does this mean 100% that the silent commitment came from one of these players? Of course not, Narduzzi could always pull a surprise commitment out of his bag. However, if I was a betting man, I’d put my money on the commitment being one of “the big three.”
