Last weekend, 2019 power forward Brandon Stone made an unofficial visit to Pitt. Another former WPIAL product will be at “The Pete” today for Pitt’s ACC opener vs. Miami.
‘Tre Mitchell (6-9, 260)formerly from Elizabeth Forward High School is making an unofficial visit. Mitchell currently attends Woodstock Academy in Woodstock Academy.
Rivals currently rates Mitchell as a 3-star prospect with offers from schools like Tennessee, Wake Forest, Duquesne, UConn, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Seton Hall.
Mitchell is one of a few underclassman from the WPIAL that Kevin Stallings and his staff are recruiting.
Pitt will not be able to land all of these local products but landing a couple is them like Stone, Mitchell and 2020 Butler PG Ethan Morton could help to speed up Stallings rebuilding efforts.
Attracting major local talent would also give the fan base which isn’t optimistic about the current situation a legitimate reason to be excited about something.
The WPIAL hasn’t produced a ton of major D-1 talent over recent years so when it players like this are available, it’s important for Pitt to be able to land someone.
Stone and Mitchell would be a nice start to the rebuild of Pitt men’s basketball.
