Pitt Football Coaches Getting Back on the Road Recruiting

Published

on

Round two of college football recruiting gets underway tomorrow when the “dead period” is lifted and coaches are permitted to go visit potential recruits.

The Pitt staff will no doubt be out visiting with players that they’d like to add to their Class of 2018.

During the early Signing Day in December, Pat Narduzzi received 16 commitments plus a wide receiver transfer.

How many players could they sign in February?

Currently, they have three open scholarships available but that number could and probably will increase if more players decide to transfer or leave the program.

Programs can begin to host recruits tomorrow for official visits but at this point, PSN has not been able to confirm that any recruits doing that this weekend. Of course, Pitt could very well be hosting some players tomorrow but we’re not aware of any. Yet.

As the days and weeks go on, here are some names to keep your eyes on but like with official visitors, the Pitt coaches could be and probably are talking to other players that we haven’t found out about. Yet.

Mychale Salahuddin, RB, Washington DC: PSN has confirmed that this 4-star back will be making an official visit to Pitt on January 26. Salahuddin is playing in an out-of-town All-Star game this weekend, so RB coach Andre Powell is going to be visiting him next Wednesday.

Dominick Watt, WR, Hollywood, Florida: PSN has confirmed that this 4-star wide receiver will be making an official visit to Pitt on January 19th.

Marcus Applefield, OT, Rutgers Grad Transfer: PSN has confirmed that Applefield will be making an official visit to Pitt on January 26. Also, we’re told that Pitt OL coach John Peterson will be visiting Applefield tomorrow in Florida.

Kaymar Mimes, DE, Long Branch, New Jersey: PSN has confirmed that Mimes will be making an official visit to Pitt on January 19.

**UPDATE- Pitt coaches will be visiting Mimes tomorrow

Leonard Taylor, DE/TE, Springfield, Ohio: Pitt has interest in this 4-star recruit but at this point, we haven’t been able to confirm any official visits. Taylor is scheduled to make an official to Louisville this weekend.

Kolin Demens, OLB, Beverly Hills, Michigan: PSN has confirmed that Demens will be making an official visit to Pitt on January 19. Demens is a big target for Pitt.

Noah Boykins: CB, Washington DC– This is a “new” name to enter the picture. Boykins is currently committed to Maryland but from what I understand, Pitt is trying to get this 4-star cornerback to make an official visit. It’s interesting that Boykins goes to the same high school as Mychale Salahuddin. Nothing has been determined yet but keep an eye on this situation.

Jairus Brents: CB, Louisville, Kentucky– PSN has confirmed that this 4-star talent will be making an official visit to Pitt on January 19. We’ve also confirmed that Pitt assistant Kevin Sherman will be visiting with Brents tomorrow in Louisville.
