Pitt FB Recruiting

Recruiting Update on Habakkuk Baldonado

Habakkuk Baldonado is a player that entered Pitt’s and many other Power Five programs’ radars late in the 2018 recruiting season.

The fast-rising defensive end from Clearwater, Florida just completed his first year of playing football in the United States after moving here from Rome, Italy. Baldonado (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) has 12 offers including ones from Michigan State, Connecticut, Illinois, Nebraska, Syracuse, Central Florida and Pitt. He’s also been receiving major interest from Oregon.

Over the weekend, Baldonado made his first visit to Pennsylvania as he made an official visit to Pitt and last night he hosted Pat Narduzzi and Rob Harley for an in-home visit.

This morning, PSN caught up with him to get his reaction to the visits and to find out where his recruitment currently stands.

First off, I got Baldonado’s reaction to what he saw and heard on his official visit over the weekend.

”I know now that Pittsburgh is an amazing city. I was never there before but it was amazing. Pittsburgh was small but very nice,” said Baldonado.

Of everything that he saw, I asked Baldonado what stood out or impressed him most?

”The fact that they share facilities and a stadium with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both places were just amazing.”

“I also like all the work that Coach Narduzzi is doing with the program and also the improvements that have been made to their facility.”

Last night, Pitt was back to see Baldonado for a in-home visit which he enjoyed very much and made him like Pitt even more. I asked Habakkuk how much, if at all, his opinion of Pitt has changed over the last five days.

“They’ve gone from not knowing if I should even make a visit there to one of the top schools on my list right now,” Baldonado.

“I think Pitt would be a good fit for me because it’s a place that I really think I could develop in the best way.”

Baldonado will make an official visit to Central Florida this weekend and then it will be time to make his decision.

After everything he’s seen and heard from all these schools that are pursuing him, does Baldonado have an idea of where he wants to go?

”Yes, I already have an idea.”

Baldonado tells me that he will sign on Letter of Intent Day but might announce his decision earlier.
