The hiring of defensive coordinator Randy Bates has already proved beneficial to the Pitt football program.
Late this morning, 2018 cornerback Erick Hallett announced on Twitter that he’d given a commit to the Pitt Panthers. The Texas native became a Panther target after the hiring of Bates, who was also recruiting him while at Northwestern.

He made an official visit to Pitt last weekend and when PSN interviewed him after this trip, it was obvious that Pitt had a great chance of getting a commitment from him.
Hallett (5-11, 175) is a 3-star cornerback from Cypress, Texas and becomes Pitt’s 18th commitment in their Class of 2018. Hallett joins Marquis Williams, Judson Tallandier and V’Lique Carter as defensive backs that have committed to Pat Narduzzi this year.
Aside from getting a commitment, this is big for Pitt because this was their first step in trying to get recruits from the talent rich state of Texas. Bates has a history of recruiting Texas and today he reeled in his first recruit for Pitt.
PSN has reached out to Hallett and we hope to talk to him later this afternoon about his decision.
