Pitt Changing Students and Band Sections at Heinz Field

No one will argue that the atmosphere for Pitt football games at Heinz Field needs to improve.

Not counting games against Penn State, West Virginia or Notre Dame, the atmosphere from fans never seems to give Pitt the noise that home games should provide.

More fans in the stands would help, but the athletic department can’t rely on that so athletic director Heather Lyke is changing something up that she hopes will improve gamedays at Heinz Field.

Today, Pitt season ticket holders received an email from Lyke informing them of a change for the upcoming football season.

A portion of the e-mail states:

“We want a game-changing atmosphere at Heinz Field every Saturday. To achieve that end, I want to provide you, our valued season ticket holders with some details on what will be new about the Pitt Football Experience this fall.

“A new and prominent Panther Pitt Student Section. This fall, a newly energized Panther Pitt student section will be augmented to run the width of the the north end zone. Our students provide provide the pulse of Heinz Field and we want them located in an area where they can have the greatest impact on the game.

“Additionally, the Pitt Band will move from Section 131 to the corner adjacent to the visiting team tunnel. The location shift will make a noticeable difference in the quality of the acoustics.”
