The Atlantic 10 handed out postseason awards today and two Duquesne Dukes were honored by the league’s head coaches.
Junior guard Tarin Smith was named the Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year and freshman Eric Williams was placed on the All-Rookie Team.
Williams, who won the A-10 Rookie of the Week Award four times, was Duquesne’s leading scorer (14.5 PPG) and rebounder (8.9 RPG). The Michigan native tied a school record by recording by 11 double-doubles and set a Duquesne freshman record by making 66 3-pointers.
Smith is just the second player in Duquesne basketball history to win the sixth man award (Kevin Forney won the award in 2003).
Smith averaged 12.5 points and 3.2 assists under Keith Dambrot this season. Smith made a huge improvement from beyond the arch as he connected on 39 3-pointers in 31 games. In his 63 career games prior to this season, Smith connected on just 21 3-point shots.
Smith, Williams and the rest of the Dukes enter the A-10 tournament as the #10 seed and will take on #7 seed Richmond Thursday night with a tipoff at 6 PM. The game will be televised by NBCSN.
