As the Kevin Stallings Watch hits day one, the embattled Pitt coach is already mentioned as a candidate for a current college vacancy.
Wyatt Wheeler of the Springfield News-Leader mentions Stallings as one of his to keep an eye on for the Missouri State opening.
Prior to coaching Vanderbilt, Stallings coached in the Missouri Valley Conference when he led Illinois State to two NCAA tournament appearances.
Missouri State recently fired Paul Lusk and haven’t made the NCAA tournament since 1999 when Steve Alford was head coach.
A lot of questions remain before a story like this really get any legs. Will Pitt decide to stick with Stallings? If he’s fired, will Stallings still want to coach? If so, would he want to coach at a mid-major school?
We should be finding out the answers to some of these questions in the next couple of days.
