Saturday Night Pitt Coaching Candidate Rumor Mill

Day Three of the Pitt basketball coaching search. Pittsburgh Sports Now will have updated news that coaching news we’ve been able to gather throughout the day. We will continue to update this post as news and notes comes in.

Tom Creen: The former Marquette and Indiana head coach reportedly has interest in the Georgia job that opened up today when veteran head coach Mark Fox was fired by the school.

Earl Grant: The College of Charleston head coach is another name that could be on Georgia’s short list. PSN believes that Grant is someone that Pitt will have interest in talking with.

Danny Hurley: As we wrote a couple of days ago, Hurley would be a top if not the top candidate for the UConn job if it opened up and today Kevin Ollie was fired as UConn head coach. If Pitt is seriously interested in Hurley, maybe they will take advantage of Rhode Island being involved in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

John Becker: One guy that won’t be in the NCAA tournament and that could draw interest from Pitt is Vermont head coach John Becker. This afternoon, Vermont (#1 seed) was upset by MD-Baltimore, 65-62. Because they were the regular season champion, Vermont will get an invitation to the NIT.
