Saline High School (Michigan) 2019 defensive back MJ Griffin is a player that’s on Pitt’s radar and yesterday he was in town to watch Pitt’s initial spring practice of the 2018 season.

As we told you last week, Griffin is someone that has a history with Pitt’s newest secondary coaches Archie Collins and Corey Sanders, as they both recruited him while they were at their previous schools.

This afternoon, Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with Griffin for a few minutes to get a recap of his trip to the South Side.

“What stood out to me was watching Pitt practice, it was really nice. It was kind of like ours and everything was timed out and detailed. There was no wasted time so that every single minute counted. I had a chance to talk with the coaches. I already know Coach Archie and Coach Sanders and that was really nice to see them especially Coach Archie because I haven’t seen him in a while,” said Griffin.

“We talked about football. After practice, I was able to sit down with both of them and watch film for about 45 minutes and watched and talked about different coverages.”

While at practice, Griffin had a chance to talk with a former Pitt defensive back, Avonte Maddox, and a current one, Paris Ford.

“I talked with Avonte, we kind of grew up together and played on a 7-on-7 team together. I also talked to Paris Ford and talked about where we were from and he was telling me about Pitt and how he liked it.”

Griffin left Pittsburgh without a scholarship offer but believes one could be coming very soon.

“They said that they’re going to talk to me again during the spring time and will let me know what’s going on.”
