What’s Next For Pitt’s Shamiel Stevenson?

Will freshman forward Shamiel Stevenson be a one and done player at Pitt?

Like it is for nearly the entire roster, that’s a real possibility after Stevenson told PSN this morning that he obtained his release from the University.

As is the case with Jared Wilson-Frame and Marcus Carr, Stevenson tells us that it’s possible he returns to Pitt but certain things have to happen.

“I’m sure that all of us are very disappointed that it’s come to this but it is what it is and we have to move on and adapt and do what’s best for each of us,” said Stevenson.

“My main reason for requesting a release was to have the ability to explore my options and just to be able to control my situation.”

I asked the talented freshman what it would take for him to return to Pitt?

“For me to want to return, personally, I think we’d have to have a decent amount of core guys stay and to build off of that. Then who they end up hiring will be very important and will be a big factor into whether I stay or leave.”

Stevenson tells us that he hasn’t started the process of looking at other schools to transfer to and wants to see who Pitt ends up hiring first.

The freshman forward joins Parker Stewart, Jared Wilson-Frame and Marcus Carr as Pitt players who have received a release from their scholarships.
