UPDATE (Monday): Scheyer is indeed a candidate and will reportedly interview for the job today with Heather Lyke in Durham, North Carolina.

UPDATE (Sunday Night): Barstool Sports has reported that Scheyer has indeed been offered the position. Paul Zeise of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that he has not.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has confirmed that Duke assistant coach Jon Scheyer is indeed a serious candidate for the Pitt opening and that athletic director Heather Lyke could offer Scheyer the job.

Scheyer is in his fourth season as an assistant on Mike Krzyzewski’s staff at Duke. After getting hired as a special assistant, he replaced Steve Wojciechowski, who took the head coaching job at Marquette.

Pitt would be the 30-year olds first head coaching position. The Illinois native definitely has both midwestern and ACC recruiting ties, which is something that will be important for Pitt.

Scheyer was rumored to have been offered the job by several anonymous Twitter accounts on Sunday. PSN was able to corroborate part of those reports. Following Duke’s overtime loss today to Kansas, Scheyer is available, so things could develop quickly.
