Who will Jeff Capel hire to be his assistant coaches?

That’s the questions Pitt fans have been asking since Capel was hired a couple of weeks ago. Very few names have been mentioned, but we’ve learned of someone that is very familiar with Capel.

Pittsburgh Sports Now is hearing that Jason Capel, Pitt younger brother, is someone that very well could become a Panther assistant coach.

Capel, 38, is a former player at North Carolina and the former head coach at Appalachian State (2010-14), where he went 53-70. Since then, Capel has worked in the media as a broadcaster.

During his college playing days at North Carolina, Capel was one of only nine players to start all four years of his eligibility. After his college career, Capel played overseas for five seasons before becoming an assistant coach in 2009 at Appalachian State.

The younger Capel would bring more ACC and southern recruiting, experience to the Pitt coaching staff.

This is not a done deal yet, but could happen in the next few days and could explain why things have been quiet on the assistant coaching front.
