Jeff Capel and his assistants spent last weekend at various AAU tournaments scouting some of the best talent in the country.
One player that stood out to Capel and a number of other coaches was 2019 4-star shooting guard Kira Lewis from Hazel Green, Alabama.
Lewis played so well in Dallas that Rivals wrote this about him:
Buy stock now, because Kira Lewis’ recruitment is about to soar through the roof. Lewis was the biggest stock booster in Dallas, thanks to his endline-to-endline abilities and straight nastiness in the backcourt. Where Lewis thrives is out in the open floor, as he causes complete havoc in putting pressure on opposing defenses with his shifty, quick-twitch abilities.
Lewis (6-foot-3, 160 pounds) fits the profile of players that Capel continues to pursue. Rivals rates him as a 4-star recruit and currently ranks him as the 81st best junior in the country.
Last night, PSN caught up with Lewis to get his reaction to the Pitt offer and his meeting with Capel.
“I got a call from Coach Capel and he told me how much he liked my game from watching me over the weekend. He told me how he was also a guard and was just straight up with me and said he liked my game and offered me a scholarship,” said Lewis. “He told me that he liked my speed, my scoring ability, my defense and my ability to make my teammates better. He said that I was a leader on the court.

Pitt joins programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Dayton, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, LSU, Mississippi State and Oklahoma State as programs that have offered Lewis.
“It was nice to get an offer from him considering he just came from Duke. He’s proven that he’s a big-time coach and he plans to turn Pitt around.”
“Coach Capel said that he plans on getting the best players so that he can go into the big ACC games and win. He said he plans on bringing Pitt back to where it used to be,” said Lewis.
Pitt has serious competition for this talent as Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Tennessee, Iowa State, Florida State, Virginia Tech and TCU are actively recruiting him.
Finally, I asked Lewis what’s something important he’ll be looking for in his next school?
”I just want to go to a school that’s a great academic school but also that’s going to help me  get to my dream of making it to the NBA,” said Lewis. “I want to go to a team that can compete with the big schools, that wins and a team that will let me be me on the court.”
