Trey McGowens was Jeff Capel’s first official commitment and his presence could pay dividends for Pitt in the future.

2019 guard Au’Diese Toney (Fayetteville, North Carolina) is a teammate of McGowens on the AAU circuit. Over the weekend, Toney became the latest 4-star player to receive an offer from Pitt.

Toney (6-foot-6, 190 pounds) is a rated by 247 Sports as a 4-star recruit and is listed as one of the Top 120 juniors in the country.

“It was great to receive that offer and I was very excited. Both Coach Capel and his brother attended all of my games over the weekend in Indianapolis and Coach Jason was the one that called to offer me,” said Toney. “He told me that they really liked my game, liked my upside and felt that I’m a versatile player that would be able to guard multiple positions.”

”Being a former guard, I feel like Coach Capel would be able to show me a lot of the ins and outs of being a great guard and get me to the next level.”

Toney says that he’s a player that can do a little bit of everything especially the little things that helps his teams win.

“I can handle the ball well, rebound, play defense and try to get all of my teammates involved.”

Speaking of teammates, I asked Toney about his relationship with McGowens and if he’s already started trying to recruit him to Pitt?

”Trey is a great friend and brother. We were roommates last year at Victor Oladipo’s camp and that’s how our friendship started. We both are driven, passionate, and just love the game. He FaceTimed me when I got my offer with his Pitt hat on,” said Toney.

“We talk like once every week. His mom is like another mother to me. At the Oladipo camp, we stayed in the same hotel room together and we were just joking and developed a good bond over those couple days. We hoped we could play at the same college,” said McGowens. “I’m happy to see how good he’s doing. Every time one of us would get an offer the other one shared it and we would start talking about a package deal or whatever. I’m always talking to him about joining me so we can do something we always hoped of doing.”

Toney is receiving a bunch of interest and says that aside from Pitt, schools that he likes are Virginia, Providence, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech and Kansas State.
