Jeff Capel has added a potential piece to his 2018-19 starting five. This evening on Instagram, Malik Ellison announced that he’s decided to stay at Pitt.
Ellison took a long time to come to this decision. Pittsburgh Sports Now was told that Ellison was deciding between staying with Pitt or possibly transferring to Villanova. Ellison was checking into whether he would be forced to sit out another year if he decided to join Jay Wright’s team.
He was supposedly waiting on a decision in that matter from the NCAA before letting Pitt know his intentions, but it’s not known if he heard back from the NCAA today.
It’s also interesting that this morning, Albany grad transfer Joe Cremo announced that he’d be joining Villanova. Cremo averaged 17.8 points last year for Albany. Did Cremo possibly take Ellison’s spot?
Regardless, Pitt is adding a good player with experience to their rotation.
Ellison has two years of eligibility remaining at Pitt.
Tonight’s news leaves Kene Chukwuku as the lone member of last year’s team that hasn’t made a decision on his future with Pitt.
