Pine-Richland offensive lineman Michael Katic became the fifth WPIAL 2019 player to receive an offer from Pitt.

Katic received the news this afternoon when he and his father made an unofficial visit to Pitt.

“Coach Borbely invited us to visit today. It’s right down the road from me, so why not,” said Katic. “When I got there, I had good 30-40 minute talk with Coach Borbely and then I went in and talked with Coach Narduzzi, who was the one who extended the offer. Then I went in a campus tour with Coach Junko and Coach Johnson. After the tour, I wrapped up the day by talking with Coach Watson.”

When Katic (6-foot-3, 270 pounds) received the offer from Narduzzi, he had an idea it was coming.

“Coach Borbely actually hinted to me previously that they were going to offer but wanted to do it in person. When Coach Narduzzi offered, he was talking to me about how they need to incorporate the talented local kids into their program more and how important the WPIAL is to Pitt,” said Katic.

Katic did admit that he was wondering when Pitt would eventually offer but now that they have, he’s excited.

“My dad and I both grew up watching Pitt and being a Pitt fan. I’d go to the games and as I grew up and the recruiting process started, that team always stuck out to me since it’s my hometown team. I’m excited about the offer,” said Katic.

Pitt now joins Boston College, Indiana, Louisville, Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia as Power Five schools that have offered Katic.

Now that he has the offer, where does Pitt sit with Katic.

”They checked off a lot of the big boxes today. I can see myself playing there but I just have to visit one more school (Indiana),” said Katic. “I’ll then compare the pros and cons and then make a decision right after that.”
