Michigan RB Lew Nichols Puts Pitt in His Top Four

The hiring of Archie Collins is definitely having a positive impact on Pitt recruiting.

For the third time this week, a player has cited his relationship with Collins as a major reason for Pitt being one of their finalists.

First, it was Alabama natives Keshun Brown and Brandon Mack and now Detroit running back Lew Nichols has praised the efforts of Collins.

Last night, the three-star back released his four finalists and they were Pitt, Purdue, Minnesota and Cincinnati.

Nichols is a big back (6-2, 200) and is rated by Rivals as one of the Top 15 prospects in the state of Michigan.

Back in April, Nichols visited Pitt and received the offer from Collins, who has been recruiting him since his days coaching at Central Michigan.

Last night, I briefly spoke to Nichols to get his reaction of naming Pitt as one of his finalists.

“Pitt has kept in contact with me the most of any school since I received an offer from them,” said Nichols. “Also, I like the city of Pittsburgh and the family vibe I got from the players and coaches when I visited. I like the city environment because I’m used to the city vibe since I’ve lived in Detroit my whole life.

“Coach Archie recruits me the most from Pitt. I have a great relationship with him dating back to my sophomore year when he offered me while he was at Central Michigan. I also had a nice time when I met Coach Narduzzi and some of the players.”

Nichols tells PSN that he could be making another visit to Pittsburgh sometime in late June.

Pitt is hoping that Nichols becomes their first commitment from Michigan since cornerback Avonte Maddox.

Nichols isn’t the only player from Michigan that Collins and Pitt are recruiting. They’re actively recruiting and hoping to get visits from players such as Jacob Wahlberg, Marvin Grant, Jalen Graham and Ormondell Dingle.
