Detroit Athlete Jalen Graham Puts Pitt in Top Eight

Pitt has been pounding on that Michigan door. Will this be the year they finally knock it down?

Last week, Detroit running back Lew Nichols announced a final four that included Pitt and tonight, another Motor City athlete included Pitt in his top group.

Three-star athlete Jalen Graham from Case Tech High School listed Pitt as one of the teams in his Final Eight.

“Narrowing this list down was all about which schools kept in contact with me the most and made it a point to let me know that I’m a priority to them and their program,” Graham said to Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Graham’s top eight included Pitt, Missouri, Kentucky, Iowa State, Minnesota, Purdue, Cincinnati and Maryland. Graham went over what specifically he likes about Pitt and not surprisingly, it all starts with defensive backs coach and Detroit native Archie Collins.

“As far as Pitt, I love Pittsburgh and the downtown city life,” Graham said. “Plus, they were the second school to offer me and they were a team that knew right from the start what I can do on the field and they just kept recruiting me with that same energy the whole time since they offered me.

“As far as Coach Collins, my relationship with him actually started when he was at Central Michigan and he’s a graduate of Cass Tech, so he’s always up there. He’s always been helpful to me as far as my game on and off the field.

Now that it’s down to eight schools, what’s the process for Graham to make a final decision?

“As far as coming up with the teams I’ll make officials to, I’d like to get that done by late summer or early fall so I know where I’ll be visiting,” he said. “After that, I’ll probably make my final decision in the fall.”

Does Graham plan on making a trip to visit Pitt anytime soon?

“They have a camp this weekend that Coach Collins wants me to get out to so I’ll try to get there but if I can’t, I’ll be down in July to see everything.”
