Pitt will be hosting 6-foot-3, 295-pound Ft. Lauderdale, Florida offensive lineman Julian Hernandez next week, Hernandez told Pittsburgh Sports Now.

“I’ll be visiting Pitt the weekend of June 15-17,” the Class of 2019 St. Thomas Aquinas offensive lineman said. “I first heard from Pitt in January. I was offered around that time and they made first contact a week after the offer. Coach (Charlie) Partridge is my primary recruiter. I speak with him the most out of anyone on the coaching staff.”

Hernandez projects an offensive guard on the next level. Syracuse, Louisville, Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois, Southern Mississippi and Columbia have offered him a scholarship as well. He readily admits that he has heard the most from Pitt.

“Pitt has consistently reached out to me and kept in close communication,” he said. “Coach Partridge and I communicate at least twice a week through texts or direct messages.”

When asked about his strengths on the football field, he stated, “I don’t give up on a play. I’ll block to the whistle and finish my blocks. Even when the ball is out of the pocket, I don’t stop pass protecting. I like to make sure that everything is going as it should be going in a play.”

Hernandez added that Pitt is the only visit he currently has scheduled.

“I’m very excited to see what Pitt has to offer,” he said. “Education is my first priority because football doesn’t last forever so I want to get a feel for the school itself. The NFL draft isn’t a guarantee I need to prioritize education. Football, obviously, is important to me and I want to get to see their facilities and get to know their staff better.”
