It appears as though Pitt is trying to make a recruiting impact in Canada.

Last week, offensive tackle Liam Dick participated in a Pitt prospect camp and earned an offer. This weekend, the same thing happened to a player from Ontario.

Class of 2019 wide receiver Jared Wayne (6-2, 185) from Trinity School in Port Hope, Ontario continued his impressive outings at various camps and earned an offer from Pitt.

Like with Dick, this was Wayne’s Pitt offer first from a Power Five school. Pittsburgh Sports Now had a chance to catch up with Wayne to get his reaction to the big news.

“I’m honored to receive an offer from such a great program with a great coaching staff and great history,” Wayne said. “Pittsburgh is a great city I really enjoyed my time down there.

”Really looking forward to coming back with my family. It’s great that it’s close to home which means a lot. I really enjoyed the camp and meeting Coach Narduzzi, Coach Sherman, Coach Sanders and some of the other coaches.”

So what did the Pitt coaches see at camp that led to Wayne securing an offer?

”They were impressed with my athleticism and explosion and I made some tough catches,” Wayne said. “The camp was fun, which made it easier to make those tough plays and allowed me to showcase my skills.”

What did it mean to receive to Wayne to receive his first big offer?

“It’s great receiving my first Power Five offer,” he said. “I’m grateful to receive any offer, but Pitt is a school I’ve grown up watching and is one of my favorite schools in the country. Coach Narduzzi offered me while I was on the phone with him and Coach Sherman. I received the offer while out for dinner with my family, so it was great we got to celebrate that.”

Not surprisingly, Pitt made a big impression on Wayne:

“Pitt stands at the top of the schools recruiting me.”
