Pitt center fielder Frank Maldonado and third baseman Liam Sabino were named to the ABCA/Rawling All-Region Team for 2018.
Both players ended up on the ABCA second team, and they combined to lead the Panthers in almost every offensive category.
Maldonado, a senior, led Pitt in batting average (.300) and added 11 doubles, two triples and five home runs. The also led the team 21 multi-hit games. Maldonado was also one of Pitt’s best defensive players, finishing the season with no errors and two outfield assists. He finished his Pitt career with just two errors.
He showed of his defensive prowess on a big stage, with a pair of clutch catches in Pitt’s ACC Tournament upset victory over top-seeded North Carolina, including this third-inning snag against the wall that robbed North Carolina of a couple of runs.

Meanwhile, Sabino paced the Panthers in home runs (16), stolen bases (18), on-base percentage (.396) and slugging percentage (.595).
Sabino turned his powerful performance as a redshirt junior into a 35th Round draft selection by the St. Louis Cardinals. Sabino has not yet signed his professional contract. Maldonado went undrafted despite his prodigious senior season.
