Pitt Football Continues to Move Up Recruiting Rankings

What a difference a week makes. Especially when we’re talking about the perception of Pitt football recruiting.

Last Friday, Pitt had just one commitment and the fan base was both worried and upset. They had no in-state recruits, weren’t seriously connect with any high ranked recruits and there was no recruiting buzz.

Fans were beginning to question the recruiting efforts and results of Pat Narduzzi and his assistants.

One week later, all that negativity is gone, and like with Jeff Capel and the basketball program, there’s buzz and excitement concerning Pitt football recruiting.

Farrell star Kyi Wright became Pitt’s 13th commitment for the Class of 2019 which continued to move them up the national recruiting rankings.

Here are Rivals’ updated team recruiting rankings:

1) Alabama
2) Texas A&M
3) Oklahoma
4) Clemson
5) Notre Dame
6) Miami, (FL)
10) Florida State
18) Penn State
21) North Carolina State
22) Tennessee
23) Minnesota
24) TCU
25) Michigan State
26) PITT
27) Washington
28) Northwestern
29) Florida
30) Virginia Tech
31) Oklahoma State
32) Nebraska
44) USC

Although there’s still eight months until the second Signing Day in February, Narduzzi is headed for his highest ranked class since taking over at Pitt. What should make fans excited is that with some of the players the Panthers are still recruiting, they have a chance to continue to movng up.

Pitt’s 4-star targets: OT Ja’Quay Hubbard (Sharpsville, PA), CB MJ Devonshire (Aliquippa, PA), CB Briton Allen (Orlando, Florida), S Tyler Scott (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), Tiawan Mullen (Coconut Creek, Florida) and RB Daniel Carter (Fort Lauderdale, Florida).

Currently, safety Keshun Brown is ranked as a Rivals 3-star recruit but we expect that to change in the near future. Currently, Brown holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Oregon and Texas A&M.

If Narduzzi is able to reel in a couple of those players and also add some of these solid 3-star recruits (Darrell Harding, Nikolas Ognenovic, Kaleb Boateng, Dane Belton and Jalen Graham), Pitt will have some kind of recruiting class.

Will their number of commitments increase in the next couple of days? I think it’s a good possibility. Stay tuned.
