Vukovcan: Jeff Capel’s Impact Immediate and Obvious

Jeff Capel hasn’t coached a game yet for Pitt but the public perception is that Heather Lyke has earned an “A” for a homerun hire.

Despite having a roster that will be filled with a majority of players from last year’s team, there’s a buzz in the air for basketball season to begin.

It’s been a while since that’s been the case here in Pittsburgh.

Capel has brought a genuine excitement and hope that the basketball program can get back to where it was in the early days of the Jamie Dixon era and possibly beyond.

There’s a big reason for that and in my opinion that’s the biggest impact Capel has had in his first six months on the job.
