How Are Former WPIAL Stars Doing Since Leaving Pittsburgh?

North Allegheny cornerback Joey Porter Jr. passing on Pitt and committing yesterday to Penn State drew a bunch of local reaction.

As Pitt fans know, Porter isn’t the only high profile player in the last few years that has decided to pass up the opportunity to play for his hometown team.

Although the reaction has been slightly overblown, we decided to go back and check on the players that had offers from Pitt and signed elsewhere since the hiring of Pat Narduzzi.

As you will see, in some cases it has worked out and in others –at least athletically–it hasn’t.

CLASS OF 2015

Nick Bowers, 3-star TE, Indiana High School (Committed to Penn State):
–Currently a redshirt junior, has played in a total of three games, currently 4th team on their depth chart.

Sterling Jenkins, 3-star OT, Baldwin High School (Committed to Penn State):
–Currently a redshirt junior, currently isn’t listed on the depth chart

John Petrishen, 3-star S, Central Catholic High School (Committed to Penn State):
–Currently a redshirt junior, has played in a total of two games, currently isn’t listed on the depth chart

CLASS OF 2016

Miles Sanders, 5-star RB, Woodland Hills High School (Committed to Penn State):
–As a freshman, carried the ball 25 times for 184 yards.
–As a sophomore, carried the ball 31 times for 191 yards.
–As a junior, has taken over for Saquan Barkley as Penn State’s starting running back.

Khaleke Hudson, 4-star S, McKeesport High School (Committed to Michigan):
–As a freshman, played mostly on special and was a standout performer.
–As a sophomore, moved into the starting lineup and made 77 tackles and had 2 interceptions.
–As a junior, one of the leaders and top performers on Michigan’s defense.

CLASS OF 2017

Josh Lugg, 4-star OT, North Allegheny High School (Committed to Notre Dame):
–Redshirted during the 2017 season
–Currently is playing OG for Notre Dame and is listed second team on the depth chart

C.J. Thorpe, 4-star OT, Central Catholic High School (Committed to Penn State):
–Redshirted during the 2017 season
–Currently is playing OG for Penn State and is listed second team on the depth chart

Donovan Jeter, 4-star DT, Beaver Falls High School (Committed to Michigan):
–Redshirted during the 2017 season
–Currently isn’t listed on the Michigan depth chart

Kurt Hinish, 3-star DT, Central Catholic High School (Committed to Notre Dame):
–As a freshman, appeared in 12 games and made 8 made 8 tackles.
–As a sophomore, is listed second team on the depth chart.

Kenny Robinson, 3-star LB, Imani Christian School (Committed to West Virginia):
–Made an impact as a freshman with West Virginia appearing in 11 games and making 3 interceptions.
–As a sophomore, is a starting linebacker on Tony Gibson’s defense.

Lamont Wade, 5-star CB, Clairton High School (Committed to Penn State):
–Moved to safety and is currently listed second team on the depth chart.

CLASS OF 2018

Phil Jurkovic, 5-star QB, Pine-Richland High School (Committed to Notre Dame):
–Is expected to redshirt this season

TJ Banks, 3-star TE, East Allegheny High School (Committed to West Virginia):
–Is expected to redshirt this season

Marcus Hooker, 3-star athlete, New Castle High School (Committed to Ohio State)
–Is expected to redshirt this season

Kwantel Raines, 4-star athlete, Aliquippa High School (Committed to West Virginia)
–Is expected to redshirt this season
