PITTSBURGH — Duquesne university football player Marquis Brown died on Thursday night after he fell from the 16th floor of a campus residence hall.

Brown, a sophomore running back from Washington D.C., jumped from a window in Brottier Hall after campus police arrived in response to a reported disturbance, according to a message to students from Duquesne president Ken Gormley that was obtained by Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Gormley said the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. Brown was taken to nearby Mercy Hospital, where he later died.

It’s homecoming weekend at Duquesne and the football team is scheduled to start conference play with a home game against Bryant at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Duquesne athletic department has not released any type of statement at press time.

Gormley said there will be a memorial service for Brown on campus, likely Sunday evening. Grief counselors will be made available for students.

Brown was a liberal arts major and an alumnus of DeMatha Catholic High School in Washington. He played in his first action with the Dukes earlier this season against Lock Haven.
