Notre Dame will be ranked No. 5 when Pitt visits the Fighting Irish next Saturday, according to the Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Sunday.

The Irish jumped up a spot after defeating then-No. 24 Virginia Tech on Saturday night. The Hokies were dropped from the poll.

Notre Dame will be the third ranked opponent for the Panthers this season. Pitt has already played No. 8 Penn State and No. 10 UCF. The Panthers are also scheduled to play No. 16 Miami.

The last time Pitt played a top-five team was in 2017, when the Panthers beat No. 2 Miami on Nov. 24, 24-14. Pitt is 2-2 under Pat Narduzzi against top-five teams, losing to Notre Dame in 2015 and Penn State in 2017 and beating Clemson in 2016 and Miami last year. Pitt is 2-8 overall against ranked opponents under Narduzzi.

Clemson is the highest-ranked ACC team at No. 4 and is joined by Miami and No. 20 NC State in representing the conference. The Tigers appear to be in playoff position, joined by No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Georgia and No. 3 Ohio State. The playoff committee will not release its rankings until Week 10.
