Pitt Basketball Goes Viral With Mac Miller Tribute Video

Published

on

After going winless in the ACC last year, any positive press from the national media is a good thing for the Pitt men’s basketball team.

Hiring Jeff Capel was obviously a good start, and receiving commitments from some well-regarded recruits didn’t hurt either.

Now, the team is making waves off the court for something completely un-basketball related.

If you haven’t seen it yet, well, that’s a surprise, because Pitt basketball’s preseason hype video/tribute to Mac Miller has gone viral.

The video–which is really well done, kudos to Pitt athletics–shows the basketball team and fans in the Mac Miller made famous Blue Slide Park (officially known as Frick Park), decked out in Pitt’s retro colors, dancing to Miller’s “Party on Fifth Ave”.

Already at over 4,000 retweets and 400,000 views on Twitter, the nearly two minute video has garnered the attention of Sports Illustrated, SB Nation, NBCSports and other national outlets.

It’s a touching tribute to Mac Miller, who wore a Pitt basketball jersey on his first release in 2007 (under the name of Easy Mac), and a savvy move by Capel and company.
