Pitt Offers Elite 2020 Shooting Guard Cameron Thomas

In his initial recruiting class at Pitt, Jeff Capel had success recruiting in Virginia as he landed talented guards Xavier Johnson and Trey McGowens.

He’s hoping to get more players from Virginia and recently offered one of the top juniors from that state.

On Tuesday, Capel personally extended an offer to 2020 4-star shooting guard Cameron Thomas from Oak Hill Academy.

Rivals rates Thomas (6’-2”, 175) as one of the top 50 juniors in the country with an offer list from UConn, Florida, NC State, Rhode Island, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

“I found out about the offer from Coach Capel on Tuesday night after our scrimmage,” Thomas told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “Coach Capel just told me that he loved my game and that meant a lot to me.”

“My initial thought on the offer was that it was a good thing for me because the Pitt assistants have been in touch with me for awhile so just for them to give me the offer it was a good thing. Pitt was a good program who have been in a slump recently. Now that they have a new coaching staff, they should be trending on the way up in the ACC.”

Thomas caught the eye of many coaches in the recent Nike Elite Youth basketball league. In four of the last eight games, he scored 30 or more points and averaged 19.8 for the entire session.

”I believe the strengths of my game are that I can score on all three levels and I’m very competitive. College coaches tell me that they are mostly impressed with the way I can score the ball and how I make it look easy.”

With all this attention he’s receiving, are any schools standing out to him at this point and could Pitt get a visit?

”A lot of schools from each conference have been in touch so I don’t wanna leave any schools out,” said Thomas. “I wouldn’t mind taking an unofficial to Pitt just to see what the atmosphere is like up there.”
