Shocking news today from Freedom High School in Beaver County.

Head football coach Russell Barley has been arrested in connection with child porn charges. This story was first reported by Mike Holden of WPXI-TV.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has been able to confirm this and has learned that at 2 p.m., members of the district and coaches from the football team were gathering for a meeting at the high school.

WPXI is reporting that Barley turned in his resignation immediately after being suspended by the Freedom School District. Also, the station is reporting that no Freedom students were involved in this arrest of Barley.

The Beaver County Times reports Barley was charged by state police with disseminating photos/film of child sex acts, child pornography and criminal use of communication facility.

Barley is free after posting $25,000 bond.

The 59-year old Barley is married with kids and serves as a church deacon. Barley is in his first season as head coach at Freedom and previously served as the team’s defensive coordinator. Freedom is having their best season since 1993 and currently tied for first place in the MAC Conference.

PSN has learned that Freedom athletic director John Rosa will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
