Postgame Reaction from Pitt’s Season-Opening Win over Youngstown State

PITTSBURGH — It was far from a perfect debut, but Jeff Capel and his three big freshman made an impact in Pitt’s 69-53 win over Youngstown State at Petersen Events Center on Tuesday.

The Panthers led the Penguins just three points at the half, were out-rebounded 21-12 on the offensive glass, turned the ball over 16 times compared to 10 assists and shot just 18.2 percent from 3-point range.

Capel seems committed to letting his freshmen play through those mistakes as long as they play hard both ways and emphasize defense, which he felt they did on Tuesday:
