PITTSBURGH — Pine-Richland defeated Seneca Valley 34-7 Saturday night at Heinz Field to win the Class 6A Championship.
The win is the third championship in five years after wins in 2014 and 2017.
Play was slow at first as the teams dragged a 0-0 tie midway through the second quarter.
A Seneca Valley fumble by Jake Mineweaser set the Rams up deep into enemy territory and they made them pay one play later.
The Rams ran the ol’ flea flicker as Luke Meckler tossed the handoff back to Cole Spencer who tossed it 29 yards to Luke Miller for a 29-yard touchdown.
Once the seal was broken, the Rams opened the flood gates and cruised to victory.
The Rams led 7-0 at the half but scored 20 points in the third quarter on two touchdown runs from Spencer and a 50-yard pass from Spencer to Shane Cafardi.
While the offense was explosive it was the Pine-Richland defense that was the story.
The Raiders gained less than 200 yards in the game and committed four turnovers including a Caden Schweiger pick-six early in the fourth.
Seneca Valley quarterback Gabe Lawson threw three interceptions while Mineweaser lost two fumbles.
