Aliquippa 3-Star WR Will Gipson Decommits From Ball State

A talented, big-play wide receiver is back on the market.

Aliquippa 3-star received Will Gipson has decided to re-open his recruitment after previously giving a commitment to Ball State.

The reason is pretty simple. Gipson made a decision too early and after a breakout senior season, is receiving major interest from multiple Power Five programs.

If you think making a major decision like this is easy, you’re wrong and Gipson struggled to do it.

“It was extremely hard because I was kind of like tapping out of a relationship and breaking up with them,” said Gipson. “They are a great school and were one of the first schools to recruit me.”

”I wanted to be a man of my word and honor my commitment but I just committed too early and really didn’t expect to have the season I had. I think me still being committed was just holding me back from other schools.”

There’s no doubt the offensive philosophy that the new Aliquippa coaching staff installed has been a benefit to Gipson and allowed him to showcase his enormous talent.

“This year everything just feels so good,” said Gipson. “Last year, I only had like 12 catches for the whole season and I sometime get that in a game this year. I don’t think anyone expected me to have the year I’m having.”

As of now, Gipson’s only Power Five offer is from Rutgers but a bunch of new schools have began contacting him.

“I’ve been hearing from a handful of Big Ten schools such as Iowa and Penn State. Also, some Big 12 schools like Iowa State, and Pitt has remained in contact with me.”

Gipson says that coaches from Iowa State are coming to see him next Friday.

As he mentioned, Pitt coaches continue to talk with him but no offer has been extended. What are the Pitt coaches saying and does Gipson believe an offer is coming?

“Pitt just wants me to be patient,” said Gipson. “They said they’re not sure when they’re going to offer me but hopefully it’s soon because my senior season is about to be over. What more do I have to do, right? I’m hearing from Coach Sherman, Coach Harley and Coach Narduzzi.”

Gipson isn’t the only Aliquippa player Pitt is actively recruiting as they continue to pursue 4-star cornerback MJ Devonshire.
