Pitt Basketball Coaches Visit With 2020 Center John Hugley

It’s no secret that Jeff Capel is looking to add a big man or two to his Pitt roster.

That’s the priority for this year’s class and it appears they’re interested in adding one to their Class of 2020 as well.

Assistant coach Tim O’Toole was in Ohio yesterday watching 2020 center John Hugley from Brush High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

Hugley (6’8”, 240) is rated as a 3-star recruit and holds offers from Buffalo, Dayton, Duquesne, Nebraska, Penn State, St. Louis and Xavier.

At this point, Pitt hasn’t offered but that could be changing soon.

This afternoon, Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with Hugley about the interest he’s receiving from Pitt.

“Yesterday, we had an open gym practice and the Pitt coach (Tim O’Toole) was there watching me. I feel Pitt and I have a good relationship. We text back and forth every day just about.”

“Coach tells me that I have a good opportunity to be a great player. He wants me to keep working and playing hard.”

Hugley says his strengths are his motor, his defense and that his offensive game has improved a lot in the last year.

I asked Hugley if the Pitt has talked to him about offering him a scholarship.

“No, not yet but they probably will soon when I go back down for my visit,” said Hugley. “An offer from Pitt would mean a lot to me and they’d be a top school for me.”

Hugley tells me that he plans on making a visit to Pitt in late December or early January.

In case you were wondering, Pitt has not talked to Hugley about re-classifying to the Class of 2019.
