Pitt baseball unveiled its full schedule for the 2019 season on Tuesday, laying down the framework for the Panthers’ fist season of competition under new head coach Mike Bell.
The season will be headlined by the Panthers’ return to PNC Park in the Backyard Brawl, a home-and-home series with in-state rival Penn State and a return to Bell’s roots at Florida State.
For the fifth straight season, the Panthers will start their season in the Sunshine State. Pitt will travel to Kissimmee, Florida to play in the Florida Classic, with the first pitch of the season against Villanova scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, February 15.
The Panthers will also play Iowa, Marshall and Milwaukee in Kissimmee, before heading to Spartanburg, South Carolina to face USC Upstate, Radford and Bucknell Feb 22-24. The following week, they’ll go back to Kissimmee to play Hofstra, Saint Peter’s, Butler and Central Michigan.
The Panthers’ home opener will be Tuesday, March 5 against Youngstown State and they’ll head straight into ACC play with a series at NC State on March 8-10. The first home conference series will be March 15-17 against Virginia Tech.
Penn State will come to Cost Field on Tuesday, March 12, with Pitt visiting Happy Valley on Wednesday, April 10. The Panthers will visit West Virginia on Wednesday, April 3 and host the Mountaineers at PNC Park on Tuesday, May 14.
Bell will take his Panthers back to his old stomping grounds in Tallahassee, Florida May 3-5. He was the pitching coach and assistant head coach for Florida State for the last seven years.
The regular season will wrap up May 16-18 at Georgia Tech, with the Panthers hoping to secure their second consecutive berth in the ACC Tournament, which will be held May 21-26 in Durham, North Carolina.
