Pitt Gets to 10 Wins With Rout of Colgate

PITTSBURGH — Pitt’s 10th win of the 2017-18 season never came, as the Panthers finished with just eight in Kevin Stallings’ second season in Oakland.

They’ll get at least 10 in Jeff Capel’s debut, as Pitt improved to 10-3 win a 68-54 win over Colgate at Petersen Events Center on Saturday afternoon.

Pitt did it with the Panthers’ new-found depth, as five players cracked double figures, and a host of athletic plays, from highlight-reel dunks by Malik Ellison and Xavier Johnson to a five-star chase-down block by Trey McGowens as the Panthers exerted their athletic dominance over the Raiders from the Patriot League.

McGowens led the Panthers with 16 points on an extremely efficient 6 of 8 shooting. He also had five rebounds and four steals.

Jared Wilson-Frame started his second straight game and scored 15 points. Au’Diese Toney had 14 on 4-of-8 shooting. Xavier Johnson had 11 and Terrell Brown came off the bench for 10 points.

Pitt will next host North Carolina on Jan. 5 as the Panthers look to snap their 18-game ACC winless streak.
