Pitt begins conference play this weekend and it appears they’ll be hosting at least two important recruits.
2020 forward John Hugley, who received an offer from the Panthers yesterday, will make an unofficial visit and today we also learned of a new name who will be on campus.
Forward Chase Johnson, who recently decided to transfer from Florida, will be in Pittsburgh for the North Carolina game. This was first reported by FS1’s College Basketball Insider Evan Daniels.
Johnson (6’9”, 220) is a redshirt freshman and would have three-and-a-half years of eligibility remaining.
The West Virginia native was a former 4-star recruit and a Top 100 (#85) prospect when he committed to Florida. He decided to leave Gainesville over a lack of playing time.
Something to keep in mind with Johnson is an issue he’s had with concussions. After playing in the first four games last season, he missed the remainder of the season after being placed in the concussion protocol. Then this year, Johnson suffered a concussion in November.
Assuming he’s medically cleared, Johnson would give Capel the big body that he’s searching for on his frontcourt.
Johnson will be a much sought after transfer and has already made a visit to Dayton.
