Pitt LB Elijah Zeise Accepts Invitation to Tropical Bowl

Pitt senior linebacker Elijah Zeise is the fifth Panthers player to accept an invitation to a postseason all-star game.

Zeise will play in the 2019 Spiral Tropical Bowl in Daytona Beach, Florida on Jan. 13, 2019.

The redshirt senior came to Pitt as a wide receiver in 2014 and after a move to linebacker, lost nearly the entire 2016 season to injury.

But the switch eventually paid dividends, with Zeise locking down a starting role at Pitt’s “money” outside linebacker position over the last two seasons. He played in each of Pitt’s 27 games since returning from his injury and has started 22 of them.

He finished this season with 48 tackles after totaling 49 in 2017. He also had a quarterback sack, two passes defended and two forced fumbles in his senior year.

Zeise joins four of his classmates that will play in postseason all-star games. Offensive lineman Alex Bookser and running backs Darrin Hall and Qadree Ollison are scheduled to play in the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 19 in St. Petersburg, Florida, though Ollison’s sprained ankle in the Sun Bowl may complicate his participation. Fullback George Aston is playing in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Jan. 19 in Pasadena, California.

In its fourth season, the Tropical Bowl is the youngest of the postseason college all-star games. It will be played in Daytona Stadium, home to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.
