The Pitt basketball staff didn’t take New Year’s off as they were once again out on the recruiting trail.
Assistant coach Tim O’Toole was in New Jersey at Don Bosco Tech High School watching the top-ranked junior center in New Jersey.
O’Toole, along with a few other teams’ coaches, was on hand to see 2020 four-star center Cliff Omoruyi (6-foot-11, 230 pounds) from Roselle Catholic and he didn’t disappoint as he scored 13 points, 14 rebounds and recorded 6 blocked shots.
Although he’s still a developing talent, Omoruyi holds offers from Syracuse, West Virginia, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UConn, NC State, Cincinnati, Miami, Florida, Auburn and Illinois.
Rivals ranks Omoruyi as a Top 100 junior recruits (No. 62) and one of the Top 10 centers (No. 10).
Omoruyi tells Pittsburgh Sports Now that at this point Pitt has not offered him but have been in contact with his guardian.
”Coach O’Toole reached out after my first game in Delaware and has been in contact ever since,” said Omoruyi. “I’m interested in anybody who is interested in me. Yes, I plan on making a visit there but don’t know what month yet.”
