The Pitt women’s basketball team announced Friday that the team will be adding transfer Marcella Lamark dos Santos.

Lamark dos Santos, a 6-foot-4 center from Sao Paulo, Brazil will be eligible to play following the Panthers first semester of the 2019-20 season. She will have a year and a half of eligibility remaining.

She spent her first two seasons at the College of Central Florida, where she started in all 23 games. She was a force on the court, as she ranked second on the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game, while also leading the team in rebounds per game at 9.1 and in blocks per game at two.

Even being a highly touted transfer coming out of junior college, Lamark dos Santos didn’t receive any playing time at Texas Tech, where she was enrolled this semester before deciding to transfer.

A fresh start at a new school was the best decision for Lamark dos Santos and Pitt head coach Lance White is certainly happy to have her.

“We are very excited to add Marcella to our basketball team,” White said in a press release. “She adds much needed size to our front court and her ability to shoot and pass the basketball make her an asset in the next phase of our growth as a program.”

White continues to try and rebuild this program after three straight losing seasons by his predecessor, Suzie McConnell-Serio. Lamark dos Santos serves as another addition to the program, which will have five players graduating after this season. White has now used his full complement of 15 scholarships.

The Panthers are currently 9-6. They lost their ACC opener to Notre Dame, 100-44 on Thursday. Pitt’s next game is Jan. 10 at North Carolina State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
